Alpha-Lipoic acid (ALA) is a short-chain fatty acid that can have gotten increased attention over the years as a scavenger antioxidant with many substantial therapeutic benefits for multiple systems of the body. ALA is used by the body with many cellular functions as a cofactor that areis critical for healthy cell growth, using nutrients as energy and normal metabolism via mitochondrial and multienzymes complexes. Hence, ALA activity is potentially able to help address the following complaints:
-control blood pressure
- improve lipid profile and increase insulin sensitivity (using glucose more efficiently)
- lend itself to weight loss
-increase immune function
-increase overall energy
-assist with the regeneration of both liver cells and nerve cells
- may help with some brain disorders
There have been some exciting studies that suggest taking ALA as a supplement can slow the progression of chronic diseases such as obesity, peripheral neuropathy, some brain disorders, and multiple sclerosis.
Delivery of ALA as a supplement can be given with both oral and IV administration. Oral ALA is easy and relatively inexpensive with an absorption rate of only about 30%. There is an increased absorption noted when consumed on an empty stomach. ALA delivered via IV is better absorbed and makes more of the solute available as the route allows for bypassing of the stomach and hepatic degeneration.
NAD can be found in many foods however levels decrease with age despite an increase in foods rich with NAD/ B3. Better tolerated than taking B3, this pyridine substrate is a cofactor, coenzyme, transporter and signaling molecule for all body systems and biological processes: energy production, DNA repair, gene expression, and immunoregulation. Increasing NAD levels is a promising strategy for degenerative disease and age-related diseases that are not limited to metabolic syndrome. Noted to improve cognitive function and improve insulin sensitivity.
Per pharmacy and medical director recommendations, this infusion should be administered every 4-7 days for up to five weeks for optimum modulation of cellular function.
Please be prepared to have a two hour infusion time for both optimal absorption and tolerability.
We recently decided to add Glutathione to most of the treatments due to its incredible benefits and our desire to deliver the most beneficial care possible.
